Guelph’s total ICI permit values in January-May were essentially the same as the same period last year, down by less than one percent. Beneath the surface significant declines in industrial and commercial permit values have been cancelled out by a dramatic increase in institutional permit activity. Guelph’s institutional permit values tripled this year led by a renovation project at the University of Guelph’s MacLaughlin Library, which was issued permits totalling $24 million in the spring. Institutional permits in the January-May period accounted for more than half of Guelph’s total ICI permit activity. Commercial permit values in Guelph were down by more than half compared to last January-May while industrial permit values declined by about one-third.
