September 2016 – Ontario Local Building Permits Update – Central Ontario

Central Ontario’s metropolitan areas experienced a 13% decline in overall ICI permit values compared to last year’s January-July period. Commercial permits in the larger metropolitan areas were characterized by slight increases and decreases but no major change in either direction. Industrial and institutional permit values on the other hand experienced significant fluctuations in each metropolitan area. Every industrial and institutional permit value change was in the double-digits and the majority changed by over 50%. Overall, both industrial and institutional permit values in Central Ontario fell by just over 25%. Brantford and St. Catharines-Niagara experienced the biggest increases in overall ICI permitting. Hamilton and Barrie both went through major declines. Toronto didn’t have a major decline overall, but permit values were down in all three of its ICI sectors.
