< Go Back to Ontario Local Building Permits (November) – Menu Page
Ottawa’s ICI sector posted its highest ever permit values for both the calendar year so far, and the June-August period. The same can be said for Ottawa’s industrial and commercial sectors. Total ICI permit values increased by 42% compared to last year’s June-August period, surpassing $400 million. Despite the industrial sector’s massive percentage increase compared to last year, permit values only accounted for 6% of the ICI total. Commercial permit values, which increased by 57%, accounted for over three-quarters of the ICI total. Ottawa’s record breaking commercial sector had strong permit numbers for mixed-use, retail, office and hotel construction. Three LRT station projects received permits in the ICI sector, and a $10 million permit was issued for a warehouse. Institutional permit values declined by 10%. Among the highest-value ICI permits were a new student residence at the University of Ottawa, major alterations to the National Arts Centre, and several mixed-use developments.
