APRIL 2017 – BUILDING PERMITS UPDATE

ICI permit values in St. Catharines-Niagara increased by 10% in the past six months compared to the previous August-January (2015-2016) period. The commercial sector led the increase with permit values up by 40%. Institutional permit values on the other hand decreased by 34%. The industrial sector was essentially unchanged, up 1%. This industrial work for the most part is due to the new GE plant in Welland. Work on the plant began in August, and two different permits were issued for the project over the August-January period.
