Total ICI permit values in Barrie were up 14% in the January-May period, compared to the same period in 2016. Barrie’s institutional sector saw the most growth, with permit values more than doubling led by a $9 million renovation at the Royal Victoria Regional Healthcare Centre. Commercial permit values also increased significantly, up 60% so far this year, compared to last year’s January-May period. The commercial sector is still Barrie’s largest overall, accounting for slightly less than half of total ICI permit values. Industrial permit values in Barrie declined by two-thirds.
