Total ICI permit values in Kitchener-Cambridge-Waterloo declined slightly compared to the January-May period last year, down 3%. Industrial permit values tripled in this year’s January-May period, driven in part by a $23 million permit for an expansion project at the Frito-Lay facility in Cambridge. Despite several projects at the region’s universities, institutional permit values were down 40% compared to this point last year. Commercial permit values in Kitchener-Cambridge-Waterloo were down by 9% compared to last year’s January-May period. In Kitchener-Cambridge-Waterloo, the levels of permit activity were balanced more evenly between the three ICI sectors than any other metropolitan area in Central Ontario.
