Brantford’s ICI permit values increased significantly in June-September compared to the same period in 2016. Total ICI permit values were up by over 150%, led by increases of more than fourfold and sixfold in the commercial and institutional sectors, respectively, although institutional permit values only amounted to $6 million. Brantford’s commercial activity was driven by two new hotel projects: an $11 million Holiday Inn, and $6 million Marriott TownePlace Suites. Overall in 2017, commercial and institutional permit values have both nearly tripled. Brantford’s industrial permit values, which accounted for two-thirds of ICI activity between January and May, declined by 16% in the June-September period year-over-year. In total so far in 2017, industrial permit values are only a few thousand dollars off the total from this point in 2016.
