Total ICI permit values in Ottawa increased by 9% in the August-November period year-over-year, but declined by 10% for the calendar year through November. Ottawa’s commercial permit values declined in both the August-November period, down 21%, and the calendar year through November, down 16%. Institutional permit values in the August-November period increased almost threefold, led by a $36 million project at the University of Ottawa, and a $35 million permit for DND’s continued renovations of the old Nortel campus. DND’s renovation work, which began earlier this year has contributed to a 37% increase in Ottawa’s institutional permits for the calendar year through November. Despite a three-quarter increase in Ottawa’s industrial permit values in the August-November period, industrial permits for the year through November are down by nearly half.
