Northern Ontario’s ICI permit values were up by 62% in Q4 year-over-year, and increased in all three sectors for the second consecutive quarter. Institutional permit values had the biggest increase, more than doubling compared to last year’s fourth quarter. Northern Ontario’s industrial permit values had a 62% increase, while commercial permit values were up by 14%.
After several years of decline in Northern Ontario’s total ICI permit values, the region had an overall increase of 58% compared to last year, reaching its highest annual total in nine years. Industrial and institutional permit values both led the increase, up 144% and 94% respectively. Commercial permit values in Northern Ontario were up by only 4% in the year.
