Total ICI permit values in the fourth quarter increased by 6% in Southwestern Ontario year-over-year. Commercial permit values were up by 59% in Q4 after three consecutive quarters of decline. Southwestern Ontario’s industrial permit values had a slight increase in the fourth quarter, up 3%. Institutional permit values have declined in all four quarters in 2017, and saw their biggest drop in Q4, down 39%.
Southwestern Ontario’s total ICI permit values increased by 5% overall in 2017, the smallest increase among the province’s five regions. Despite this marginal increase, Southwestern Ontario’s total ICI permit values hit their highest annual total since 2011. Industrial permit values in 2017 had the biggest increase in the region, up 26%. The fourth quarter increase in Southwestern Ontario’s commercial sector pulled it into the positive with a 9% increase in 2017 overall. Institutional permit values in 2017 fell by 28%.
