Job Posting: Communications & Engagement Coordinator

Position Objective

The Communications and Engagement Coordinator is responsible for providing the strategic communications services for the Ontario Construction Secretariat (OCS) and its labour/management partners by enhancing the professional image and promoting the advancement of Ontario’s unionized industrial, commercial and institutional (ICI) construction industry. You will have exceptional communication skills with the ability to understand and communicate complex ideas while leading multiple projects and engaging industry stakeholders.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the strategic direction provided by the CEO and daily reporting to the Director of Operations, the Communications and Engagement Coordinator is responsible for providing a wide range of communication services necessary to meet the evolving needs of the Ontario Construction Secretariat and its member stakeholders. Responsibilities include, but will not be limited to:

  • Develop, write and produce a variety of communications deliverables including internal communications plans, presentations, newsletters, website content, speeches, invitations and promotional products

  • Develop innovative and creative media content for regular posting across social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn)

  • Coordinate the production of OCS monthly e-newsletter, special bulletins, media releases and reports

  • Use social media platforms to monitor trends, issues and industry activity and provide regular analysis

  • Attend industry events, develop and maintain strong working relationships with industry stakeholders necessary to share and coordinate joint projects and initiatives

  • Build and manage distribution lists to ensure the timely and accurate distribution of OCS research, event and promotional information

  • Maintain organization branding/visual identity and ensure that all communications products and programs are in compliance

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • University degree or College diploma in Corporate Communications, Public Relations or in a related field with a minimum of 4 years’ experience

  • Well-developed communication skills, with the ability to understand and communicate complex ideas persuasively and efficiently through print, digital and spoken mediums

  • Demonstrated experience in planning and implementing strategic internal communications

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Strong computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn and Hootsuite

  • Ability to work independently as well as co-operatively as a member of a team to help develop and deliver all facets of the OCS mandate and strategic plan

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and priorities while meeting timelines

  • Understanding of unionized ICI construction industry, its processes and issues is an asset

Special Working Conditions

  • Occasional working attendance at evening/weekend industry events and activities will be required
