SEPTEMBER 2017 – BUILDING PERMITS UPDATE
< Go Back to Regional Permits Menu Page
Central Ontario’s ICI permit values increased by nearly half in Q2 compared to last year’s second quarter, the highest point for ICI permits since 2010. Industrial permit values in the region were up by 150%, setting a record high for a single quarter. The Hamilton-Niagara area drove industrial activity with an $88 million permit for Hamilton’s Woodward Avenue Wastewater Treatment Plant project, and a $55 million permit for GE’s factory project in Welland. As always, it should be noted that municipal permit values don’t capture all industrial construction activity. Institutional permits increased by 56% year-over-year in the second quarter, reaching a 2-year high. Commercial permit values declined by 5%.
The Central Region includes: Waterloo Region, Guelph, Hamilton, Brantford, Burlington, Niagara Falls, St. Catharines, Barrie, and Peterborough
