In an effort to address the skilled trades labour shortage, the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training, and Skills Development has partnered with Enterprise Canada, who will be hosting a series of showcase events for students across Ontario called “Level Up: Unlock your Future in the Skilled Trades”.
These local showcase events will be targeted towards students in grades 7-12 and aim to raise awareness of the skilled tradesand present them with a hands-on experience and the many opportunities available to them. The OCS, along with other construction industry stakeholders, are part of the Advisory Table as these events are being modelled on the best practices of our own signature event, Future Building.
Plans are well underway and some of you may have already been contacted, if you are interested, you can help make these events a success by participating as a hands-on exhibitor. Your experience and expertise in the unionized construction industry will give students insight into the challenging and engaging opportunities available in the skilled trades. These showcase events will be taking place in five locations across the province on the following dates:
October 25-27 – Toronto, International Centre – 30,000 sq ft
November 9-10 – London, Western Fair District – 90,000 sq ft
November 14-15 – Sudbury, Steelworkers Hall – 5,016 sq ft
November 22-23 – Ottawa, EY Centre Hall 3 – 40,000 sq ft
November 29 – Thunder Bay, Valhalla Inn & Conference Centre – 8,000 sq ft
