Total ICI permit values in Eastern Ontario increased by 22% in the second quarter compared to Q2 2016, surpassing half a billion dollars for the first time in a quarter in over three years. After seeing diminished activity in Q4 2016 and Q1 2017, Eastern Ontario’s commercial permit values rebounded in Q2, totalling more than the previous two quarters combined. Compared to Q2 last year, which was also a strong quarter, commercial permit values increased by 7%. A $54 million permit for a new Holiday Inn in Ottawa was among the contributors to the upturn in Eastern Ontario’s commercial sector activity. Institutional permit values increased by 150% in the second quarter, driven by DND’s fit-up of its new headquarters at the old Nortel campus in Ottawa. Permits totalling over $60 million were issued for the project in Q2. Eastern Ontario’s industrial permit values declined by 15% in the second quarter.

The Eastern Region includes: Ottawa, Kingston, and Belleville
