SEPTEMBER 2016 – BUILDING PERMITS UPDATE
< Go Back to Central Ontario Local Building Permits Menu Page
Brantford was the only metropolitan area in Central Ontario that saw permit values rise in all three sectors. Permit values in the ICI industry overall increased by two-thirds compared to the January-July period last year. Brantford also has the distinctions of having Ontario’s largest industrial sector by percentage size. 66% of ICI permitting in Brantford was on industrial projects. The industrial sector was led by the Mitsui High-tec manufacturing facility project which accounted for 35% of the ICI permit values in Brantford. Although institutional permit values increased compared to last year, they accounted for less than 7% of total ICI value. This makes it the smallest institutional sector in Ontario by percentage size. In dollar value as well, Brantford had the lowest institutional permits values of all the metropolitan areas on Ontario. Institutional permits only amounted to $3 million over this time period. This is typical for Brantford’s institutional sector which is almost always the smallest institutional sector in Ontario. Commercial permit values increased by almost half compared to last year.
