Total ICI permit values in Oshawa declined slightly compared to last year’s January-July period. Oshawa’s institutional permit values doubled, but this was not enough to offset declines in industrial and commercial permits. Commercial permit values were almost unchanged, falling by less than 5%. Industrial permit values fell by half, but this was in part because in 2015 industrial permitting in Oshawa reached an 8-year high. Despite this drop in permit values, Oshawa’s industrial sector is expected to be strong for years to come with the refurbishment of Darlington Nuclear scheduled to begin in October.
